Official inauguration of the 18 social and affordable housing units on Principale Street!

Today, September 23, the Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors and MNA for Brome-Missisquoi, Isabelle Charest, came to Sutton to officially inaugurate the 18 social and affordable housing units of the Coopérative de solidarité Les Voisins de Sutton, located on Principale Street South and occupied by Sutton families since July 1.

The Minister presented the Quebec government plaque to the project’s bearers, representatives of the Coopérative de solidarité Les Voisins de Sutton, the Town of Sutton and the Fédération des coopératives d’habitation de l’Estrie :

“It’s a great day for this project, which has taken over ten years to complete,” commented Sutton mayor Robert Benoît. It took a lot of resilience on the part of everyone involved to bring it to fruition, and it went through no less than three municipal councils. It would not have been possible without the substantial financial support of the Quebec government, the Town of Sutton and the federal government. I salute and thank all those who believed in this vision.

Today, we are proud to have 18 new housing units available for rent at very low cost, compared to the exploding market, particularly in Sutton. They enable 18 families, currently including more than 40 children, to live in Sutton and contribute to our community’s dynamism and quality of life.”

The Coopérative de solidarité de Sutton will hold its first General Meeting this evening, at the end of which its first Board of Directors will be appointed. It will be made up of five resident members and two outsiders from the community. Mr. Kenneth Hill will be one of these two people for a year, to help the Board through this transition.
