Following the passing of Councillor Rosanne Cohen, the Law states that the Town must organize a by-election within four months of the notice of the vacancy (section 339 LERM).
However, in accordance with Ministerial Order 2020-003 (https://cdn-contenu.quebec.ca/cdn-contenu/adm/min/sante-services-sociaux/publications-adm/lois-reglements/AM_numero_2020-003.pdf?1584373200 in French only), all election proceedings are presently prohibited.
Despite the above, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation plans to set a polling day to be held in the fall of 2020, namely a date to be determined by the Ministère. Subject to the health situation permitting it, the Ministère may set a polling date, over the next weeks, which would include various conditions adapted to the current situation.
