Closure of the municipal ecocentre in 2020

The Sutton municipal ecocentre will close its doors in 2020. This decision has been taken because conditions required to ensure environmental and economic viability of the project were not met as part of the process to improve the regional ecocentre service. Essentially, the decision to close the Town of Sutton’s ecocentre is based on the following considerations:

  • The existence of two parallel services, regional (MRC) as regards and municipal, creates confusion as regards the nature of the recyclable materials accepted at each location;
  • The objective of municipal recycling being profitable for the preservation of the environment was not met;
  • In a context of scarcity of resources, it has become impossible for the Town to find the personnel necessary to provide this service;
  • This is part of the policy of reducing costs relating to garbage collection.

In order to ensure the efficient recycling of eligible materials, the Sutton population will be able to continue to use the usual garbage collection services and the services provided by the ecocentre of the MRC of Brome-Missisquoi which are in the process of optimizing their centre (new layout of the site coming in 2020).

Work on the outdoor skating rink and ice path

Work has started on the skating rink and ice path at the Goyette Hill park. We need a good base of compacted snow and a cold weather stretch to flood the surface to allow us to offer good ice conditions. We ask citizens to cooperate with us and to avoid using the skating rink and the ice path until the announcement of the opening.

We hope that the snow and cold weather continues in the days to come which will allow us to achieve as quickly as possible a nice outdoor skating rink and ice path.

You can find information on the conditions of the outdoor skating rink and ice path on the Town’s website: https://sutton.ca/en/ . The conditions are updated every day.

Town of Sutton’s 2020 budget

On 16 December 2019, the Council of the Town of Sutton adopted its budget for the year 2020.

Prior to its adoption a public presentation was given to explain the context and the facts relevant to the budget.

The Town of Sutton’s 2020 budget takes into account the Town’s obligations, neccessary catch-up work for municipal infrastructure and equipment, and also responds to certain expectations expressed by the community. The budget foresees a reduction of 5 % in the residential tax rate, and investments in the order of $12,7M in its three-year investment program as detailed in the Programme triennal d’immobilisations (PTI).
