{"id":28943,"date":"2019-08-12T15:36:10","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T19:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/?page_id=28943"},"modified":"2025-10-20T14:09:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T18:09:51","slug":"access-to-documents","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/en\/online-services\/access-to-documents\/","title":{"rendered":"Access to Documents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<h2>\n\t\t\tA fundamental right\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The right of access to information is a fundamental right of citizens to request and obtain information held by public bodies, subject to certain limitations.<\/p>\n<p>Any person who makes a request, except as provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/fr\/document\/lc\/A-2.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information<\/em><\/a>, has the right to access documents held by the Town.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Town has twenty (20) days to respond to the request and, in accordance with the Act, this period may be extended under certain conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Access to a document is free of charge. However, fees not exceeding the cost of transcription, reproduction, or transmission may be charged to the applicant.<\/li>\n<li>This right does not extend to personal notes written on a document, nor to sketches, drafts, rough copies, preparatory notes, or other documents of a similar nature.<\/li>\n<li>The right to access a document may be exercised by consulting it on-site during regular business hours or remotely. The applicant may also obtain a copy of the document, unless reproducing it would compromise its preservation or pose serious practical challenges due to its format.<\/li>\n<li>The request may be made verbally, but only a decision regarding a written request may be reviewed by the Commission d&#8217;acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l&#8217;information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the request concerns a property or documents that may contain personal information, written consent duly signed by the person concerned must be attached to this form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This consent must clearly specify the documents in question and identify the person or organization authorized to consult them.
