{"id":42469,"date":"2021-07-28T11:46:57","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T15:46:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/?page_id=42469"},"modified":"2026-04-22T11:24:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T15:24:40","slug":"septic-tank-emptying","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/en\/septic-tank-emptying\/","title":{"rendered":"Septic tank emptying"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>Concerned about adequately protecting public health and the environment, the Town of Sutton has instituted a systematic emptying program for septic tanks every two years for permanent residences and secondary residences, in accordance with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/fr\/showdoc\/cr\/Q-2,%20r.%2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regulation respecting waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings Environment Quality Act <\/a>(Q-2, r.22), as well as our municipal By-Law entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/en\/services-to-citizens\/urban-and-land-use-planning\/urban-planning-by-laws\/#AutresRegUrb\">R\u00e8glement num\u00e9ro 172 \u00e9tablissant un service de vidange p\u00e9riodique des boues de fosses septiques<\/a>&#8221; (in French only).<\/p>\n<p>The mandated contractor, Solutions environnementales 360 Lt\u00e9e (Division Groupe Enviro5), will proceed with the emptying of the septic tanks by sector according to the schedule established with the Urban and Land-use Planning Department. Residents will be notified by mail of the dates scheduled in their sector but can also refer to the schedule below. <\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Calendrier-vidange-fosses-septiques-2026-V2.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"    rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2026 Schedule with dates and addresses for septic tank emptying\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tPractical information\t<\/h2>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Emptying will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Your presence is not mandatory; you will be given a document attesting that the work has been done.<\/li>\n<li>You do not have to pay the contractor directly, as this service is billed to your tax bill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tMandatory Instructions\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><strong>No later than the SUNDAY before the week of emptying,<\/strong> you must ensure that the following instructions are followed:<\/p>\n\t<ul>\n<li><strong>Clear the two (2) lids<\/strong> from your septic tank leaving a free space <strong>at least 15 cm (6 inches)<\/strong> wider and deeper than the lid. Remove the screws holding the plastic covers, if applicable. You don&#8217;t have to lift the lids, the contractor takes care of opening and closing them.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure itemscope itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/couvercle-fosse-septique.jpg\" alt=\"couvercle fosse septique\" height=\"140\" width=\"266\" title=\"couvercle fosse septique\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n\t\t\n\t<\/figure>\n\t<ul>\n<li><strong>Clearly identify the location<\/strong> of the septic system using a post or marker to make it easier to locate.<\/li>\n<li>If you have a <strong>Bionest type system<\/strong> fitted with a pump, the pump must be stopped before emptying. A notice should be left near the tank to indicate that the pump is off. <\/li>\n<li>For a <strong>septic system equipped with a pre-filter<\/strong>, the contractor can clean it when emptying if you leave a garden hose nearby.<\/li>\n<li>The land around the septic tank must be <strong>free of all obstacles<\/strong>: ornaments, toys, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>site must be safe and accessible<\/strong> (dog tied up, fence unlocked, etc.). The building address must be visible from the public road. <\/li>\n<li><strong>A service area intended to receive the vacuum truck <\/strong>must be located 40 meters (131 feet) or less from the septic system and have minimum clearance to allow the truck to pass. In some cases, a road can serve as a service area. If more than 100 feet (30 meters) of hoses are required, please contact the contractor.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>CAUTION<\/strong>: You are required to clear the tank covers on the date indicated by the contractor. An additional fee of one hundred and sixty-five dollars ($165) will be charged to any property owner who fails to prepare his or her lot or clear the septic tank openings by the date specified for emptying the septic tank, in accordance with By-law number 172 establishing a service for the periodic emptying of septic tank sludge, as amended.
