{"id":115880,"date":"2026-06-08T10:39:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T14:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/?p=115880"},"modified":"2026-06-08T10:39:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T14:39:19","slug":"update-to-the-2026-septic-tank-emptying-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/en\/update-to-the-2026-septic-tank-emptying-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Update to the 2026 Septic Tank Emptying Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each residence will be notified by mail of the date of arrival of the company mandated by the Town, Sanivac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><i class=\"fas fa-hand-point-right\"><\/i> Consult : <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Calendrier-vidange-fosses-septiques-2026-V2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the 2026 list of septic tank emptying dates and addresses<\/a> <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emptying will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.&nbsp; You don&#8217;t have to pay the contractor directly, as this service is billed directly to your tax bill. The Town of Sutton has instituted a program of systematic emptying of septic tanks every two years for permanent residences and second homes, in order to adequately protect public health and the environment, and in compliance with the R\u00e8glement sur l&#8217;\u00e9vacuation et le traitement des eaux us\u00e9es des r\u00e9sidences isol\u00e9es (Q-2, R.22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We would like to remind you of the following instructions to ensure that this program runs smoothly:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Provide unobstructed access for a truck <\/strong>with a minimum height and width of 4.2 meters (14 feet);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Remove the two (2) septic tank covers, leaving a clear space<\/strong> at least 15 cm (6 inches) wider and deeper than the cover. Remove any screws holding the plastic covers in place. You don&#8217;t have to lift the lids; the contractor will open and close them;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"266\" height=\"140\" src=\"https:\/\/sutton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/couvercle-fosse-septique.jpg\" alt=\"Vidange fosse septique\" class=\"wp-image-42126\" style=\"width:346px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Clear cover<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clearly identify the location of the septic system<\/strong> with a stake or marker to make it easier to locate;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a <strong>Bionest system<\/strong> with a pump, the pump must be turned off before emptying. A sign should be left near the tank to indicate that the pump is de-energized;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For septic systems equipped with a <strong>prefilter<\/strong>, the contractor can clean it during emptying if you leave a garden hose nearby;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The area around the septic tank must be <strong>free of any obstacles<\/strong>: ornaments, toys, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The site must be <strong>safe and accessible<\/strong> (dog tied, fence unlocked, etc.). The building number must be visible from the public thoroughfare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A service area to receive the vacuum truck must be located 40 metres (131 feet) or less from the septic installation, and have a minimum clearance to allow the truck to pass. In some cases, a road may be used as a service area.&nbsp; <strong>If more than 100 feet (30 metres) of hose are required, please contact the contractor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#d0112d\" class=\"has-inline-color\">ATTENTION:<\/mark><\/strong> <strong>It is your obligation to clear the tank covers before the date indicated by the contractor. An additional fee of one hundred and sixty-five dollars ($165.00) will be charged to any property owner who fails to prepare his or her lot or clear the septic tank openings by the date specified for emptying the septic tank, in accordance with By-law number 172 establishing a service for the periodic emptying of septic tank sludge, as amended.
