A clear and dynamic presentation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The public consultation was moderated by Caroline Cusson<\/strong>, the Town\u2019s Assistant Director General, who is responsible for projects and community and attached to the Urban and Land-Use Planning Department, the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department, as well as the Recreation, Community Life, and Culture Department. \u201cThe initiative that brings us together today is part of a clear commitment to transparency, participation, and sound management of our territory,\u201d she said in her introduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the presence of several Town council members, Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet<\/strong> took the floor to emphasize the importance of urban planning in our community: \u201cUrban planning is a matter of quality of life, a matter of territorial integrity, and one that deserves careful consideration,\u201d said the mayor. \u201cI am particularly proud of all the public listening sessions and consultations we have held. I am proud of the new Urban Plan, and I believe that, just as with the Plan, there is a consensus on the proposed changes to the by-laws. For the past three years, we have worked very hard on the three pillars of Sutton\u2019s economic development: recreational tourism, agriculture, and housing. We have tried to eliminate as many obstacles as possible to create more flexible regulations, while respecting territorial integrity.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an urban planner with the firm Arpent, which has supported the Town throughout the process of revising the urban plan and regulations, Charlotte Montfils-Ratelle<\/strong> presented the main points of the proposed changes to the urban regulations, beginning with the objectives of the revision process: You can listen to her entire presentation in the recording<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

List of Planned Changes<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While the list of proposed changes was displayed on the screen, the Town\u2019s Clerk and Director of Legal Affairs, Genevi\u00e8ve Bonnichon<\/strong>, presented a summary of the key changes designed to address the concerns raised during the productive pre-consultation period, which ran through June 18. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of these amendments, organized by regulation article number, has been compiled to highlight the various changes planned, whether they involve a deletion, an addition, a textual change, or the relocation of an article. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several citizens came up to the microphone at the end of the session to share their views or suggestions regarding regulatory issues. These comments will be reviewed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slightly revised dates<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In order to give the administration and the council time to review these last comments, the dates for the final adoption of the by-laws have been changed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Cancellation of the special meeting on June 30<\/strong>, at which a notice of motion regarding the adoption of the regulations was to be filed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Filing of the notice of motion regarding the adoption of the by-laws at the regular Town Council meeting on July 8 <\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Adoption of the urban by-laws at the special council meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 16, <\/strong>at <\/strong>7:30 p.m., during which the new regulations will be presented.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Town would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to all citizens, as well as to all organizations, groups, and representatives who came to share their views, express their opinions, and suggest improvements. It hopes that these new urban regulations, which are consistent with the Urban Plan, will guide it in making further decisions that will shape the future of its territory and its development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
