On Saturday, May 11, the Generations Party 2024 took place on the grounds of the Sutton School. More than 400 people came to enjoy a delicious community meal and numerous activities for all ages.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

This second edition of the event, organized by the Sutton-Abercorn community development table<\/strong>, once again brought together people of all generations around activities that fostered encounters and sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 11 a.m. participants were able to enjoy a wide range of activities to get them moving. In the gymnasium, the Jardin d’enfants de Sutton<\/strong> hosted a baby gym<\/strong> activity for toddlers. Outside, a skateboard initiation workshop<\/strong>, including skatepark elements and skateboards on loan, took place in the rotary. Nearby, the Sutton Pickleball Club<\/strong> introduced people of all ages to this popular new sport. Those who wanted to could also practice their balance on the slacklines<\/strong> provided by the school’s day-care service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trade market<\/strong> organized by the Sutton School’s Parent Participation Organization (PPO)<\/strong> was very busy again this year. This ecological activity encourages waste reduction through the exchange of goods and services. Some twenty tables were occupied by students from the school or members of the FADOQ<\/strong>, and participants were invited to come and exchange objects or services with them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A delicious free cold lunch<\/strong> of sandwiches, salads and side dishes was served all day long. Thanks to the work of numerous volunteers<\/strong> and Racine Pop<\/strong>, participants were able to enjoy the meal in a convivial atmosphere that encouraged meeting new people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an effort to reduce waste, people were invited to bring their own dishes. Grades 5 and 6 students <\/strong>set up a kiosk to sell compostable dishes and hot beverages in support of their end-of-year trip. Ballet-Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Sutton<\/strong> completed the food offering with a dessert sale to raise funds for the organization!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many community organizations were on site to offer activities and promote their services. Participants could express their creativity by taking part in the collective artwork<\/strong> organized by Maison des jeunes Le Spot<\/strong>, or at the Sutton School of Art<\/strong> kiosk, which hosted a Creative Club<\/strong> activity. The PENS<\/strong> had a booth to present their new Nature and Discovery<\/strong> program, and the CAB Sutton<\/strong> offered a seedling preparation activity<\/strong>, for those who wanted to get their hands in the soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In between all these activities, the children enjoyed the enchanting tale <\/strong>\u201cM\u00e8re Soleil\u201d with Isabelle Dupras<\/strong> in the outdoor classroom. Sandrine Rousseau<\/strong> from La Bo\u00eete \u00e0 Sardine<\/strong> hosted a game zone<\/strong> where everyone was invited to discover board games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day was filled with music, thanks to performances by SING! an intergenerational singing group<\/strong>, and musicians from the Sutton Traditional Fiddle Festiva<\/strong>l. Espace Sutton<\/strong> was also on site to present the public piano project<\/strong>, and participants were able to discover the upcoming summer program!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sutton-Abercorn community development table<\/strong> would like to extend a warm thank-you to the 20 volunteers whose invaluable contribution helped ensure the smooth running of the activities and meal. Thanks also to all the organizations that contributed to the diverse programming of this Generations Party, and to Mika\u00ebl Theimer for immortalizing it with his photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many citizens and organizations also lent equipment, and we thank them – it takes a village to hold such a successful event! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
