\u201cWe are proud to present a controlled budget that continues the rigorous management of our finances over the past four years,\u201d commented Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet. \u201cWe have adopted a medium-term financial vision to mitigate budget variations, and we have prioritized both the revision of urban planning By-Laws, following the adoption of our new Urban Plan, and the improvement of customer service in urban planning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reasonable and responsible figures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Town of Sutton’s 2026 Budget totals $16,686,382<\/strong>, a moderate increase of 3.33% over 2025. Over 92% of this revenue comes from residential taxation<\/strong>, as the Town has no industrial park. It should be noted that this budget is several million less than that of neighbouring towns whose profile is very similar to Sutton’s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The budget also provides for a contained 4.25% increase in spending<\/strong>, despite the ever-increasing cost of the raw materials needed for our public works, and also despite a 9.34% rise in the share paid to the S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, which now accounts for 11.2% of our total budget. The Urban and Land-Use Planning Department will benefit from a significant 20.90% increase in its budget to enable a temporary restructuring of urban planning services<\/strong>: the designation of a temporary person assigned to the revision of urban planning By-Laws, to enable the rest of the department to concentrate on improving the management of urban planning applications. Cultural activities<\/strong> will benefit from a 15.76% increase in their budget, part of which will be allocated to recognized cultural organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Average tax increases kept under control<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To offset the sharp rise in the assessment roll, the Town lowered its tax rates. Considering the average value of a residence, which rose from $472,939 in 2025 to $677,030 this year, an increase of 43%, the increase in Sutton’s tax bill was reasonably limited to between 3.83% and 3.99%, depending on the sector<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
