This is very sad news for our community that has cherished the presence of the two majestic American elms on Jordan Road for many decades. The elm on the south side, whose foliage has withered considerably since the spring, has Dutch elm disease and will be cut down next week.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As announced by the Mayor at the July 5th Council meeting, the disease had been detected, but the Town was waiting the opinion from the mandated arboricultural expert before its removal. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable in order to have a chance of saving the other tree. Dutch elm disease<\/a> (in French)is a disease caused by two microscopic fungi and has been spreading in Quebec since the 1940s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is with great reluctance that the Municipality will proceed with its felling next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offering a magnificent panorama, this pair of elms has been photographed extensively over the years. That is why we invite photographers, amateur or professional, to send us their best photos of these two elms using the online form<\/a>, in order to create a souvenir album that will be published on the Town\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
