COMMITTEE’S RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, September 2nd, in front of Sutton\u2019s Town Hall, Gillian MacCormack, Agathe Frenette, president of the Abercorn Culture and Heritage Association (ACPA) and Gis\u00e8le Bolduc presented a cheque for $7,300 to Liane Bruneau and Michel Lafrance, members of the Committee for Ukrainian Refugees – Sutton.   This generous donation came from the Music and Art for Ukrainian Refugees fundraising event held on August 7th in Abercorn\u2019s small Anglican church under the auspices of the ACPA. <\/p>

Gillian MacCormack, who initiated the event, was able to bring together a large number of people from the region and from Montreal, internationally acclaimed musicians such as Karen Kaderavek, American-Canadian cello soloist, Scott Woolweaver, principal viola of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and David James, renowned for his glass, stainless steel and granite sculptures, as well as a large number of sponsors.  Musical performances, auctioned art, the use of the church, wine and snacks were all donated. <\/p>

To date, Sutton has welcomed five Ukrainian refugee families, representing 15 new arrivals.  This philanthropic gesture allows the Committee for Ukrainian Refugees – Sutton to help these families integrate into their new environment by providing financial assistance as well as help in finding housing and basic necessities, employment and French-language classes, among others<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n
