The Town of Sutton has just installed bollards in the silhouette of young children at key locations in the heart of the village, to prevent motorists from speeding. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This initiative, led by the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department, is a response to citizen requests to reduce speed on certain school corridors, where many motorists in a hurry do not respect the speed limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signs are the size and shape of different school-age children holding a sign with a strong message for recalcitrant motorists. \u201cWe are very sensitive to the issue of safety on our streets and for our children,\u201d commented Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet. \u201cWe are gradually putting in place various traffic calming and speed reduction measures. We’re counting on these signs to be a great deterrent: it’s much more impressive to see a child facing one\u2019s vehicle than a simple sign!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that these bollards are extremely rigid, and driving over them could cause serious damage to the expense of any vehicle venturing onto them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit is 30 km\/h everywhere in the village (except provincial roads), especially on Western, Mountain, Highland and Gagn\u00e9 streets, where these new signs have been added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
