The Minist\u00e8re de l’Agriculture, des P\u00eacheries et de l’Alimentation du Qu\u00e9bec (MAPAQ) <\/em>reminds us that avian influenza (bird flu) prevention measures must be stepped up in the fall for small bird farms (including urban hens).<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Autumn is now upon us. In the context of avian influenza prevention, the Minist\u00e8re de l’Agriculture, des P\u00eacheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ) reminds you that standard biosecurity precautions <\/a>must be heightened during the seasonal migration period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MAPAQ recommends that you pay particular attention to the procedures for entering and leaving farm buildings. For more information, visit the \u00c9quipe qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise de contr\u00f4le des maladies avicoles <\/em><\/a>webs<\/a>ite<\/a> <\/em>(in French only).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/i> Avoid links between farms: staff or owners of a poultry farm should avoid visiting other facilities where birds are kept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, vigilance is required to avoid attracting wild birds (especially scavengers), animals and insects, as their proximity to livestock buildings can contribute to the spread of the disease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
