As announced by the MNA for Brome-Missisquoi and Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors, Isabelle Charest, the Town of Sutton has been awarded a $98,000 grant from the Quebec government under the new Municipal Infrastructure Program for Seniors (PRIMA)<\/a>. This financial support will enable the addition of lighting along the bike path and in Goyette-Hill Park. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

An action in line with the Family and Seniors Policy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The project was submitted by the Recreation, Community Life and Culture Department, in collaboration with the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department, to meet specific objectives of the 2023-2027 action plan of our Families and Seniors Policy: the addition of lighting on one of the village’s busiest routes will encourage walking among our seniors, who make up a larger percentage of the population than elsewhere in Quebec1<\/a><\/sup>. The project, supported locally by FADOQ Les Deux Monts, Les Villas des Monts, CAB Sutton, COOP Gym de Sutton and CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS, aims to contribute to a sense of security, improve access to local services and, ultimately, enhance the quality of life throughout our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature of project<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Town will install solar-powered bollards along the bike path, from Pine Street to the entrance to Goyette-Hill Municipal Park, as well as in the park, from the bike path to the parking lot. The bollards were chosen to comply with municipal regulations on light pollution. They will help protect local residents from the impact of the added light. More than sixty bollards will be installed approximately every fifteen meters, with a higher concentration at the intersection of the bike path and rue Principale, where traffic is heavier and bike path users need to be more visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will keep the public informed of the timetable for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
