The announcement was made by Caroline Proulx, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for the Lanaudi\u00e8re region, accompanied by Fran\u00e7ois Bonnardel, MNA for Granby, Minister of Public Safety and Minister responsible for the Estrie region, Isabelle Charest, MNA for Brome-Missisquoi and Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors, Gilles B\u00e9langer, MNA for Orford, and Andr\u00e9 Bachand, MNA for Richmond. Of the $34.3 million awarded, $5 million will go to Mont Sutton for the second development phase of its four-season destination project in the Eastern Townships.<\/strong><\/strong>

Great news for Mont Sutton and our community<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet was delighted with this announcement, which benefits not only Mont Sutton, but also the town’s economic development: “Sutton’s economic development depends, to a large extent, on sustainable tourism that showcases diversified resources in sports, leisure, art, culture, nature and landscapes, all of which offer residents and tourists alike an exceptional quality of life. Thank you to the Government of Quebec and to Mont SUTTON for contributing to the diversification of our tourism and, above all, economic infrastructures for the city and the region.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mont Sutton has announced the four major projects it hopes to finance with this grant: the addition of a quad chairlift equipped with a conveyor boarding carpent, the addition of new RFID terminals to improve chairlift traffic flow, the development of four-season glamping<\/em> sites and the development of its outdoor museum featuring sculptures by local artists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support for the entire region\u2019s tourism industry<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The tourism industry is booming in the Eastern Townships, a region that features nearly 1,400 businesses and over 20,500 tourism-related jobs. According to the most recent figures, the economic contribution of tourism-related sectors amounted to $794 million. The projects supported will promote the growth of tourism, an important source of local economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n
