Over the weekend, users of chemin Cushion in Glen Sutton reported that pieces of metal were protruding from certain parts of the road, which could obviously be dangerous and damaging to vehicles. The Town of Sutton immediately took note of the situation and is working to resolve the problem.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The facts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cushion Road is currently undergoing work included in the Town’s summer work schedule to raise its level, so that it is less vulnerable to flooding which is particularly prevalent in the valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raising the road surface involves laying a sub-base layer made from recycled materials, before installing the final layer of gravel on which vehicles will drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The materials used for this sub-base are a mixture of gravel, sand from our own quarry and recycled materials from old roadworks. The mixture is then thoroughly crushed, after which a high-powered magnet is used to attract and remove pieces of metal from the mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the sub-base layer used for the last 1.6 km of Cushion Road still contained pieces of metal that our team was unable to remove before the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We accept responsibility for this incident and apologize for any inconvenience or damage it may have caused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our response<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Public Works and Fixed Assets Department took immediate steps to repair this error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To begin with, this morning, a team went over the entire section of road in question with a fine-toothed comb to manually remove the exposed pieces of metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last step:<\/strong> the final layer of natural gravel (which contains no recycled material) will be added, levelled and compacted over the entire road.<\/p>\n\n\n

This work will be completed by the end of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
