In this 9<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup> edition of the Early Childhood Week, from November 18 to 24, the Town of Sutton is proud to present its first annual review as a Child Friendly City (CFM).<\/strong> Each day of this week, we will be highlighting one of the four commitments made by the Town over the next three years, and the achievements made in this regard.<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On October 20, 2023, the Town of Sutton was awarded the prestigious Child Friendly City (CFC) certification<\/strong><\/a> by Espace MUNI in collaboration with UNICEF Canada. To obtain this certification, an application was submitted, presenting numerous actions already implemented by the Town, as well as four clear commitments to improve the quality of life of the community’s children, in line with the Families and Seniors Policy and its 2023-2027 action plan<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First commitment: Gagn\u00e9<\/strong><\/strong> Park<\/strong> redesign<\/strong><\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The redesign of this municipal park came out very clearly in the citizens’ requests. The municipality is therefore committed to making it an inclusive park that encourages free play among children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young people were at the heart of the consultation process conducted by the Quality of Life Advisory Committee: 165 people participated, including many children<\/strong>. The results of these consultations were submitted to the municipal council in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A budget of $100,000 was voted by the council when adopting the PTI 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The redesign project has been entrusted to a landscape architect, and her proposal will be submitted to the municipal council in the coming weeks. Project costs will have to be adopted as part of the 2025 budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The redevelopment work will begin in 2025<\/strong> and will be carried out in several phases.
