Isabelle Charest, MNA for Brome-Missisquoi and Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors, visited Sutton on Monday to walk along the bike path in the company of Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet, Councillor Lynda Graham, Councillor Marc-Andr\u00e9 Blain, Director of Public Works and Fixed Assets Yvan Giroux, and several members of FADOQ Les Deux Monts. The aim was to see the positive contribution made by the bollards, which were financed by the Quebec government<\/mark><\/a>. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

The visit took place at the end of the day, under a beautiful blanket of snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The positive impact of this new lighting on the safety and comfort of walkers, particularly seniors, was not lost on Ms. Charest, who declared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last March, the Town of Sutton received $98,000 from the new Programme d’infrastructures municipales pour les a\u00een\u00e9s (PRIMA) for the addition of lighting on the bike path and in Goyette-Hill Park.
The installation of these bollards will enable the population, including seniors, to remain active and safe despite the shorter days during the cold season.
PRIMA supports communities that have adopted a seniors’ policy and a Municipalit\u00e9 amie des a\u00een\u00e9s (MADA) action plan, to carry out infrastructure and development work that meets the needs of seniors.
This project in Sutton is a fine example of these policies coming to life thanks to the people behind them and the people who use them. Congratulations!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet, for his part, thanked Ms. Charest on behalf of the Town for the government’s contribution to this fine achievement. He also paid tribute to the work of theTown’s two departments, Public Works and Fixed Assets, and Recreation, Community Life and Culture, who worked together to bring this bollard project to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Lynda Graham, who is responsible for family and senior issues, underlined the importance of the actions undertaken by the Town as part of its Family and Senior Policy. As the Town of Sutton is recognized as both a Senior-Friendly Municipality and a Child-Friendly Municipality, the entire administrative apparatus now ensures that the interests of seniors and families are taken into account in every project it undertakes, as is the case here with the bollard project and the upcoming Parc Gagn\u00e9 redevelopment project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Daniel Murphy, President of FADOQ Les Deux Monts, concluded the discussions by mentioning the satisfaction he had noted among his members, who were using the bike path more often in the dark. FADOQ Les Deux Monts had been consulted and supported, along with other local organizations, the bollard project which, while promoting walking, ultimately aims to improve the quality of life within the entire Sutton community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
