On Friday June 6, Sutton mayor Robert Beno\u00eet and representatives of citizens’ groups from Sutton, Brome, Brome Lake and Dunham presented, in the presence of the media, their 69 kV line project, which was developed on a volunteer basis to offer a realistic, responsible and socially acceptable<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> alternative to Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec’s 120 kV Brome project.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 69 kV line project<\/strong> has the great advantage of using the optimized locations of existing distribution substations<\/strong> and existing corridors<\/strong> with 16-20 m metal poles, unlike Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec’s 120 kV project, which would require the creation of a new transmission substation and new corridors with 40-45 m metal lattice metal towers, destroying our landscape. \u201cOur project minimizes the impact<\/strong>, not only for Sutton, but also for all the surrounding municipalities,\u201c commented Mayor Robert Beno\u00eet. \u201cLet’s make a project worthy of our territory<\/strong>: let’s preserve our territories, let’s preserve our agriculture, let’s preserve our citizens’ view!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some sixty people in attendance applauded the demonstration. Rita Dionne-Marsolais, former Minister of Energy, former Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec senior executive and resident of Sutton, even took the floor at the end of the presentation to say that she was initially against the 69 kV project, but changed her opinion, as the arguments presented convinced her that this project deserved a precise and comparable evaluation by Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 69 kV citizen project is due to be presented to Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec on June 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
