Remembrance Day celebrations on Tuesday, November 11
Tuesday, November 11, 2025 will mark the 107th anniversary of the armistice of the First World War. It is also Remembrance Day, the day on which Canadians collectively remember all those who fell for their country in military service.
As it does every year, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 158 Sutton will hold a commemoration ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, in Veterans Park. The public is invited to gather there, starting at 10:30 a.m.
The ceremony will start at 10:50 a.m. sharp. Soup will be served immediately afterwards at the Legion, 2 Curley Street, where you are all welcome.
What does Remembrance Day represent?
Originally called Armistice Day, this anniversary was introduced in Canada in 1919 to mark the end of the First World War, which was signed in 1918 on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 a.m. Renamed Remembrance Day in 1931, it pays tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the service of their country, and to those who continue to serve it today. Every year, on November 11 at 11 a.m., Canadians are invited to observe two minutes of silence in their honour.
The Poppy Campaign
Every year, starting on the last Friday in October, the Royal Canadian Legion distributes poppies as a symbol of Remembrance Day. They should be pinned respectfully on the left side, over the heart. Although they are free, donations are welcome to support Canada’s veterans and their families.
Town Hall offices and Municipal and School Library closed
