MRC Guide to Compostable Tableware
The MRC Brome-Missisquoi, in collaboration with the CLD, recently produced a guide on compostable tableware accepted in Brome-Missisquoi. It is primarily intended for organisations and businesses to help them choose packaging, but it is of interest to everyone.
The purpose of this guide is to demystify the compostable packaging accepted at the Zone-Éco composting facility in Cowansville. It will also help you choose the right packaging and containers for your business. The right choice of containers will limit contamination of the final product, compost. On the market, many packaging manufacturers and suppliers offer a wide range of different products. Nevertheless, some products are labeled compostable without actually being compostable in all composting facilities. The processes used throughout Quebec are not the same, which explains the different instructions. Depending on the method, some packaging may be more difficult, or even impossible, to compost. They are then refused, as they cannot decompose properly. Compostable packaging must then be disposed of in the garbage can.
