The Town of Sutton is a proud ambassador of the National Drowning Prevention Week

From July 21 to 27, 2024, the 31st edition of National Drowning Prevention Week (NDPW) will be held under the theme Drowning is avoidable. The Town of Sutton is proud to be an ambassador again this year. As part of NDPW, the aquatic team has prepared a variety of interactive activities, information kiosks, demonstrations and more!  To mark this important week, the aquatic team has prepared one activity per day, from Sunday, July 21 to Saturday, July 27. Check out the program and come to meet the lifeguards at the Sutton Municipal Pool! Sunday, July 21st: Activity – Demonstration of lifesaving techniques adapted to children from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.             During this activity, a lifeguard will be available to answer questions and give demonstrations. Demonstrations will focus on the types of objects to stretch out or throw and their use. There will also be demonstrations of simple immobilization bandages.  Monday, July 22nd: Information kiosk – Safety in residential pools and open water from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come and discover tips on how to increase safety in residential pools and open water: pamphlets, quizzes and interactive games for the whole family!  Tuesday, July 23rd: Activity – With the Town of Sutton Day Camp on aquatic awareness and the importance of swimming from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  During this activity, lifeguards will explain the importance of swimming and the Lifesaving Society’s Aquabon tips. In addition, they will swim with the kids and demonstrate different techniques.This activity is reserved for children registered in the Town…

Wednesday, July 24th:

Demonstration – Rescuing a victim with a spinal injury from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Lifeguards will demonstrate in real time how to rescue a victim with a spinal injury. They’ll explain the importance of respecting pool rules, the importance of listening to lifeguards’ instructions, and answer your questions. 

This is one of the most frequently practiced situations in national lifeguard training. Don’t miss our team in action! 

Thursday, July 25th:

Activity – Lifeguard for a day from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 60-minute blocks

Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Have you always wanted to experience lifeguarding around a pool? Now’s your chance! 

For one hour, accompanied by a national lifeguard, you can supervise during a free swim period. The lifeguard will answer your questions and teach you effective lifeguarding techniques. You’ll also be able to try out our lifesaving equipment, learn about our techniques and understand our responsibilities around a pool.

Friday, July 26th:

Demonstration – Rescuing an unconscious victim in cardiopulmonary arrest from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Rescuers will demonstrate techniques for resuscitating a victim who is no longer breathing. They’ll explain the importance of their job and demonstrate their knowledge.

Our team will be ready to answer your questions! 

Saturday, July 27th:

Information kiosk – The importance of wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and how to choose one from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

At this booth, a lifeguard will explain the importance of choosing a PFD according to your size, the different types of vests to wear and their lifespan. 


Come and meet us! The lifeguards at the Sutton municipal pool are trained, experienced and ready to share their aquatic knowledge with you. Lifeguarding is a shared task!
