A great spring program at the Municipal and School Library!

Throughout the year, the Sutton Municipal and School Library offers a variety of workshops, courses and lectures for all ages and tastes. This spring's program is no exception: discover the many activities on offer from April to June!

Your public library offers a diverse program of recurring and one-time activities that contribute to the town’s community, cultural and social vitality. You can take part in a series of fee-based courses or in workshops and conferences offered free of charge to Sutton residents and homeowners, and at low cost to non-residents.

All activities take place at the Sutton Municipal and School Library at 19 Highland Street.

Registration for activities must be made on line on the AccessCité Loisirs platform.

SPRING ACTIVITIES AT THE LIBRARY

“Italy, from Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast” with Martin Généreux

When: Sunday, April 6, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: A film-conference in French by Martin Généreux presented by Les Aventuriers Voyageurs

Michèle and Martin travel to the heart of Italy, starting their journey in the legendary capital, Rome. Following bucolic roads and inspiring encounters, they head for the unique and splendid Tuscany! The beauties of Italy will follow one another from village to village, passing through the historic cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena. Their adventures will end on the steep paths of the enchanting Amalfi Coast, with its many colorful villages, bordered by the turquoise sea that everyone dreams of!

Creative calligraphy workshop with Luc Saucier

When: Saturday, April 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
What: Combine gesture and ink in this afternoon workshop with calligrapher and illuminator Luc Saucier (in French but all are welcome).

A versatile artist with a passion for history, Luc Saucier has been a member of the Société des calligraphes de Montréal since 1993, and has some 30 years’ experience in the profession.

Paper-making workshop for children aged 6 to 12

When: Sunday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
What: Come and take part in an eco-friendly activity and make your own handmade paper! Discover the world of paper and make your own personalized paper (in French, but all are welcome).

April 22 is Earth Day! A great way to pay tribute to this special day.

“Start your own vegetable gardenwith Élyzabeth Lefèvre

When: Monday, April 14, 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
What: How to set up your project properly to maximize your chances of success: benefits, planning, resources needed, choosing varieties, seedlings and transplants, planting schedule, growing in the ground and in containers, right through to implementation (in French, but all are welcome).

Élysabeth Lefèvre is passionate about the world of agriculture and popularization, and can help you discover a more sustainable, eco-responsible way of life.

“The secrets of creative cell phone photography” conference with Michel Proux

When: Wednesday, May 28, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
What: This inspiring talk (in French) for beginners and accomplished photographers alike, will rekindle your enjoyment of cell phone photography. You will receive a student workbook entitled “Les secrets de la photo créative avec votre cellulaire”!

A gifted teacher, Michel Proulx is an ace at nature and landscape photography. This passionate teacher of photography will share his joy of visually appreciating our world in all its detail.

“Drawing is seeing” workshop with Diane Lambin

When: Tuesdays, April 8 to June 10, 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
What: An introductory workshop (in French) to black-and-white drawing, to familiarize yourself with the shape and volume of an object, and the light and shadow that sculpt it.

With a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, Diane Lambin is a Sutton writer and painter artist.

“À la belle aventure” writing workshop with Diane Lambin

When: Wednesdays from April 9 to June 11, from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
What: A French writing workshop for the pleasure of creation: freedom, sensitivity and imagination are our allies as we write short texts on a variety of themes and genres, literary games and poetry, in verse or prose.

Basketry workshop “Making a willow swallow” by Sweet Mama Grass

When: Monday June 9, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
What: Discover the fascinating world of basketry: come and create a little swallow from willow twigs to capture its beauty in all simplicity (in French, but all are welcome)
