Canada Post strike: impact on municipal elections
The ongoing strike at Canada Post may affect several municipal election procedures, including mail-in voting and the postal delivery of registration notices. We are currently awaiting directives from Élections Québec to clarify the situation. Please review the information included below.
Registration of Non-Resident Voters
We inform you that due to the general strike at Canada Post, your registration as a non-resident voter may not have reached us.
To address this issue, on September 29, 2025, we sent an email acknowledgment of receipt to all individuals from whom we received a compliant registration form.
If you have not received this acknowledgment of receipt (please check your spam folder), we invite you to complete the form below again and submit it to us by October 21, 2025, at 10 p.m. by email to the following address: [email protected] or in person at Town Hall at 11, rue Principale Sud, Sutton.
For the sole owner of a building or the sole occupant of a business establishment, please use this form.
For the undivided co-owner of a building (two or more owners) or the co-occupant of a business establishment, please use this form.
Voting by Mail
Please note that mail-in voting is currently still in place.
Registration Notice
Municipalities are required to send their citizens a registration notice for the electoral list following the end of the candidate nomination period (October 3, 2025). This registration notice allows each person to verify their registration on the electoral list, as well as the accuracy of the information and, if necessary, to send us the required modifications during the board of revisors scheduled for October 17 and 21.
As the Town of Sutton has fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, we are not, however, obligated to send a reminder card.
To allow everyone to receive their registration notice on time, we are currently awaiting directives from Élections Québec to determine how registration notices can be distributed to voters.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed of any further changes or impacts on the municipal elections.
Thank you for your understanding and valuable cooperation.
