Full House at the Public Consultation on the Urban Plan on last Thursday!
As required by the Act respecting land use planning and development, the Town of Sutton held a public consultation on the draft Urban Plan By-Law last Thursday, September 11, attended by more than 120 people. The event, which went very well, was also watched online by more than 160 people.
Mayor Robert Benoît opened the session by recalling the progress made in urban planning in Sutton and the importance of adopting a strong Urban Plan that aligns with a shared, long-term vision for the development of our territory.

The urban planners from L’Arpent, who collaborated with the Urban and Land-Use Planning Department in drafting the Plan, gave a summary presentation to outline its main points and explain the significant changes. It was also noted that this Plan was a continuation of the previous one from 2009. The presentation document can be consulted here.

A long line of citizens took turns at the microphone during the question period to express their concerns and ensure that the Plan properly considers Sutton’s Outdoor identity, which is increasingly based on a strong development of four-season outdoor activities. Furthermore, some residents wished to express their view that the mountain should not be considered separately, as a tourist area, but rather as an integral part of the community.

The elected officials and administration carefully considered all comments expressed. Overall, no major outstanding issues remained, as several modifications requested during the pre-consultation had already been made. The council must now examine the revised version of the Urban Plan and decide on its final version before its adoption scheduled for the next session, on October 1.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the democratic process
of revising the Urban Plan!
