Mount Echo Fire – Updated Friday at 12 p.m.
Operations with the SOPFEU helicopter had to be interrupted today, as the team was called out to an emergency fire raging in La Tuque. Our Sutton firefighters are now monitoring the Mont Écho fire, which has been brought under control, as announced yesterday.
Mont Écho trails remain strictly forbidden to hikers and are patrolled by Sentiers de l’Estrie. We ask you to respect and enforce these instructions, especially on this weekend. Thank you for your cooperation.
A further update will be given early next week, if required.
Survey in progress
Sutton Public Safety Separtment is in charge of the ongoing investigation to determine the most probable cause of the fire. This investigation is being carried out in collaboration with the Sûreté du Québec and the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU).
Our fire investigators analyzed the scene and interviewed several witnesses to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the event.
At this stage, there is no evidence of arson. The facts gathered indicate that the most likely cause of the fire was accidental.
The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the situation or has relevant information is invited to contact our investigators anonymously and confidentially at 450-538-2290, option 7, or at [email protected].
