Mount Echo fire – Updated Friday, October 24

The rains of the last few days have certainly helped to extinguish the fire, but we will have to wait for official confirmation from SOPFEU before we can declare that the fire that was burning last week on Mont Écho is completely out. In any case, a final check will be made next week by our team.

The Mont Écho trails will remain closed until we receive confirmation of this. Thank you for your cooperation and for respecting this ban.

A Huge Thank You

The Town of Sutton wishes to express its warmest thanks to the SOPFEU team for its efficiency and the quality of its response, including the pilots of the air tankers and helicopter. We also extend our warmest thanks to the fire departments of the towns of Potton, Cowansville, Frelighsburg, Brome Lake and Dunham, who mobilized on the day of the fire, demonstrating the great solidarity that exists between our municipalities in the event of a major disaster. Finally, we congratulate our own firefighters, under the leadership of Don Mireault and Marc-Antoine Fortier, who unfailingly supported SOPFEU’s mission.

Thank you also for the support and encouragement the public has given the firefighters through publications throughout the past week. We are certainly all proud to be able to count on such professional teams.

Anecdotally, our Sutton firefighters even found time during the Mount Echo events to rescue a dog stuck in a pipe, earning public thanks from the animal’s owner!
