REMINDER: Free First Aid training offered in English on March 29-30, 2025
After offering the training in French last September, the Town of Sutton will be giving the same free First Aid course on March 29 and 30, 2025 in English. This course, which is part of the free lifesaving training program we mentioned on May 31, requires no prerequisites. Taking place in the Goyette-Hill park sports chalet, it will give participants aged 12 and over the chance to obtain one of the certificates needed to work around a pool, especially the one in Sutton! With the Standard First Aid certificate, as well as the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certificates, it is possible to become an assistant lifeguard and work at the pool from the age of 15! The Standard First Aid certificate is a prerequisite to register for the National Lifeguard course, which is needed to work as a certified lifeguard from the age of 16. Being a lifeguard at the Sutton pool means spending your summer outdoors in a beautiful park with a dynamic team!
The role of a lifeguard is to supervise swimmers to ensure their safety, react quickly in critical situations, provide first aid to injured people, and enforce pool rules to prevent accidents.
Lifeguards are attentive, responsible and knowledgeable.
Standard First aid certificate
After this training course, you will be able to recognize abnormal signs and symptoms in victims in distress and apply the necessary emergency measures. You’ll also learn how to treat priority and secondary emergencies. In addition, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), the administration of epinephrine by auto-injectors (EpiPen) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures will be taught in depth. Candidates must be at least 12 years old at the time of the first course.
Duration: 16 hours
Schedule: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30, 2025,

Registration for this course is open until March 16, at 1:30 p.m. and takes place online via the Town’s platform AccèsCité.

Free courses!
This year, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid courses are offered free of charge at the Sutton pool. This is a great opportunity to develop new skills and discover the lifeguard profession!
