The launch of the Town of Sutton’s cultural policy: a new era for local culture
The Town of Sutton officially adopted its new Cultural Policy and Action Plan 2025-2029 at its December 18 municipal council meeting. The realization of this new Policy and Action Plan marks an important turning point in Sutton's commitment to promoting greater accessibility to the arts, culture and local heritage.
With the assistance of a follow-up committee and the Artenso firm, the Recreation, Community Life and Culture Service’s team worked on revamping the last municipal Cultural Policy, dating back to 2007.
A process based on public consultation
The development of this Policy and its Action Plan is based on an extensive public participation process. Meetings at summer events and ideation workshops were held with the general public and the cultural community. In addition, a bilingual online survey was conducted, with hard copies also distributed to the Centre d’hébergement de Sutton and Les Villas des Monts. These various consultations enabled cultural organizations, citizens, artists, the municipal administration and the municipal council to express their views on their participation in cultural activities, their cultural desires and aspirations, and the Town’s role in cultural development.
An action plan for cultural development
The findings of these participatory processes have led to a clear vision for cultural development, focusing on diversity, inclusion, promotion and support for the creative core and local cultural organizations.
The Action Plan 2025-2029* drawn up on the vision of the Policy is intended as a tool enabling the Town to respond concretely to the needs and wishes expressed in terms of culture. It is based on four distinct basis foundations. A number of cultural organizations, local professional partners and the general public will be involved in realizing the 14 specific objectives and 39 actions of the Action Plan for the Town of Sutton’s new Cultural Policy.
The Cultural Policy development team, the administration and the municipal council wish to acknowledge the active participation of the population, organizations and other stakeholders in the various public consultations held as part of this process. Thank you to everyone involved.
Through this initiative, the Town of Sutton is asserting itself as a dynamic town, proud of its cultural identity and ready to write a new page in its history.
