MTQ installs pedestrian lights at the corner of Principale Nord St. and Western St.

Work has been underway for several days on Principale Nord Street, at the intersection of Western Street: the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable has indeed begun installing rapid-flashing rectangular beacons to allow pedestrians to safely cross Principale Nord Street.

Rapid-flashing rectangular beacons are a signaling tool used to increase the visibility of certain pedestrian crossings. They make the signage of these crossings more visible by attracting more attention from drivers on the road and allow pedestrians to indicate their intention to cross.

They are equipped with a button that pedestrians are invited to activate so that the light flashes, giving them priority. However, they must ensure that vehicles have seen them and yield the right-of-way before crossing. Similarly, cyclists must dismount if they wish to benefit from this priority crossing.

Note for motorists and all road users: you must always yield to pedestrians, whether the lights are flashing or not.
