Plaisirs d’hiver: look back on a highly successful edition!

On Friday February 14 and Saturday February 15, Winter Pleasures was held at Goyette-Hill Park. This year, a particularly varied programming, perfect weather and a heavy blanket of snow allowed everyone to take advantage of our exceptional winter and play outside! Let's take a look at the photos that illustrate all these great moments!

A lively disco evening on Friday

On Friday, February 14, the second edition of the Disco Skating Night took place: the atmosphere was great, and participants of all ages seemed to really enjoy it!

Colorful lights, installed along the ice path, made the scene festive and joyful. Throughout the evening, over 150 people skated on the ice path and rink, to the rhythm of disco classics played by DJ Pierre Ste-Marie.

Two artists from Productions Cirkaz also gave luminous performances, to the delight of everyone, especially the children. Their fluorescent costumes and enchanting characters created even more magic.

To keep warm, skaters could take advantage of a free hot beverage stand. Hot chocolates, topped with marshmallows, candies and whipped cream, were very popular! Adults could even add whiskey or maple cream to their drinks, sponsored by Ungava Spirits.

Earlier in the week, an intergenerational activity was also organized with FADOQ members and the Sutton School daycare service, so that children and seniors could work together to make little wooden snowmen, which have been on display and can be admired in the sports chalet since Friday, February 14!

A fun winter fest on Saturday!

The following day, Saturday February 15, the Winter Fest was held in Goyette-Hill Park. The weather was once again favorable, and the large amount of snow received since the start of winter provided a most wintry decor for the event.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., a great program awaited Sutton residents of all ages as well as visitors on vacation. Around 500 people came to enjoy this festive afternoon.

As soon as the event began, the ice path and skating rink were packed! After skating, playing hockey or racing on a snow scooter, participants could explore Goyette-Hill Park to discover the other sports activities offered:

  • Plein air Sutton had created a fatbike trail that alternated between flat terrain and hills, to give riders the chance to experience this mountain sport. Participants could borrow a bike free of charge and have fun on the trail. Electric versions were even available!
  • Right next to this, on the hill, was an introductory activity to snowskate, a sport that combines the skills of snowboarding and skateboarding. Back again this year, this activity was another great success! Participants were able to practise their skills down the hill and onto the specially installed modules.
  • On the basketball court, Loisirs Sutton, following the huge task of shovelling the court, organized winter soccer matches, allowing everyone to play this sport, whatever the season!
  • Finally, an obstacle course was set up near the baseball field. A multitude of equipment and obstacles were set up. Participants could discover training techniques, and even race with friends along the course.

The atmosphere in the park was warm and energetic, thanks to the DJ who got everyone dancing.

The outdoor fireplaces provided the perfect place for participants to warm up and enjoy a stick of maple taffy, a cup of hot chocolate or coffee (with added whiskey or maple cream sponsored by Ungava Spirits, for the adults). CAB Sutton was there to serve a delicious and much-appreciated homemade soup.

Near the chalet, CAB Sutton also held a face-painting activity. In the gathering area in front of the chalet, the Maison des jeunes de Sutton created a snow fort with visiting builders. The PENS was also present to lead two activities: learning about forest life, and making lanterns for the Winter Lights activity they were organizing that evening on the Village-Mountain trail.

Finally, participants could enter a draw to raise funds for the Winter Pleasures event. The prize was a quadruple pass for the Yooner, an activity offered by Mont Sutton, as well as 4 hot chocolates offered by l’Échappée Belle to warm up after the outdoor activity. The grand winner of this contest is Amaranta Velilla! Congratulations and many thanks to her!

The festivities continued into the evening with Winter Lights!

Starting at 4:30 p.m., PENS organized an activity on the Village-Mountain trail, to continue the winter celebration into the evening. Around 50 people, mainly families, gathered in the forest by lantern light to enjoy stories told by François Bienvenue and flute music played by Willy LeMaistre. Beautiful cookies made by Racine pop and hot chocolate were also available to warm up those present. This convivial and unifying event was enjoyed by all.

A huge thank you!

The Town of Sutton and the Corporation de développement économique de Sutton (CDES), organizers of the Winter Pleasures event, warmly thank everyone who came to enjoy the activities, and look forward to seeing you next year!
