Early Childhood Week: review of the fourth commitment as a Child Friendly City (CFC)
In this 9th edition of the Early Childhood Week, from November 18 to 24, the Town of Sutton is proud to present its first annual review as a Child Friendly City (CFM). Each day, we have highlighted the commitments made for the next three years, and what has been achieved in this regard. Today, we present the fourth and final commitment! On October 20, 2023, the Town of Sutton was awarded the prestigious Child Friendly City (CFC) certification by Espace MUNI in collaboration with UNICEF Canada. To obtain this certification, an application was submitted, presenting numerous actions already implemented by the Town, as well as four clear commitments to improve the quality of life of the community’s children, in line with the Families and Seniors Policy and its 2023-2027 action plan. Starting on Monday, we presented the following commitments: Fourth commitment: Develop a youth zone with urban furniture and a basketball court in Goyette-Hill Park The lack of activities for teens in Sutton was highlighted during the public consultations held to update the Family and Seniors Policy. The addition of priority infrastructures is an important point in the 2023-2027 action plan. In response to this need expressed by the population, and more specifically by teenagers directly, the municipality has committed to building a new basketball court and creating an area where people can meet and socialize. On October 20, 2023, the Town of Sutton was awarded the prestigious Child Friendly City (CFC) certification by Espace MUNI in collaboration with UNICEF Canada. To obtain this certification, an application was submitted, presenting numerous actions already implemented by the Town, as well as four clear commitments to improve the quality of life of the community’s children, in line with the Families and Seniors Policy and its 2023-2027 action plan.

- Park Gagné redesign.
- Implementation of safety measures to access Goyette-Hill Park as part of the redevelopment project of the northern part of Western Street
- Celebrating World Children’s Day

Colorful urban furniture has been added near the court, making it a pleasant place for youths to gather, socialize and practice this very popular sport.
