Pink Shirt Day, Wednesday, February 25, to fight bullying
Pink Shirt Day is celebrated in Canada and around the world on the last Wednesday of February to raise awareness about bullying, particularly in schools. We wear pink clothing to show our solidarity with victims of bullying and to promote kindness.
Bullying can take many forms, including physical, verbal, social, or relational bullying, and cyberbullying.
Kindness, listening, empathy, and understanding can make all the difference in helping victims of harassment: together, let’s support victims and speak out against bullying!
Origin of Pink Shirt Day
The initiative began in Canada in 2007, when 12th-grade students purchased and distributed 50 pink shirts after another student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt in Cambridge, Nova Scotia. Since then, the Pink Shirt Day initiative, led by the CKNW Children’s Fund, has raised funds throughout the year to support anti-bullying programs. More than 180 countries show their support for this cause each year by participating in Pink Shirt Day.
