2025 Municipal Elections
General information
Under the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities, all municipalities in Quebec must hold general elections every four years to elect their municipal council members.
Since 2025 is an election year, polling day is scheduled for November 2, 2025.
You are invited to consult this section for all relevant information on the electoral process. It will be updated regularly between now and polling day.

Electoral List
Check your registration on the electoral list!
Due to the Canada Post strike, we are asking voters to personally verify that they are correctly registered on the electoral list.
There are two ways to do so:

Check online by clicking on the “Electoral List” button: you will need to enter your address, then click on the “Am I registered?” tab, where you will be asked to enter your date of birth;

Come in person to the Town Hall reception, where we will verify your registration on the electoral list.
IMPORTANT: If your name does not appear on the list or if your registration is incorrect, you must appear in person before the Revision Commission on October 17, 2025, between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., on October 20, 2025, between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. or on October 21, 2025, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., at the Town Hall of Sutton.

If you are interested in running as a candidate in the November 2, 2025, municipal elections, you are invited to consult the documentation below to learn more about the eligibility criteria and responsibilities of a council member.
Nominations must be filed between September 19, 2025, and October 3, 2025, inclusively at the office of the returning officer, by appointment only. The public notice dated August 29 indicates the hours during which applications may be submitted.

Who can vote?
To vote in municipal elections, you must be an elector and be registered on the Town's electoral list. The conditions required to be an elector are defined by the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities:
- Be at least 18 years of age on election day.
- Be a Canadian citizen.
- Live in the municipality.
- Have lived in Québec for at least six months.
- Not have lost your election rights.
If you do not live in the municipality, but are an owner or co-owner of a building, or are a co-occupant of a business establishment, you may have the right to vote- see below for non-domiciled voters.

List of electors
When you receive the notice in the mail, check to see if your name is on the list. If it isn't right, or if you didn't receive the notice, you must go to the location indicated on the notice to register or change your registration with the Board of Revision, which will be held between October 11 and 21, 2025.
Non-domiciled voters
For the sole owner of an immovable or the sole occupant of a business establishment, the form used is the one entitled Application for registration on the list of electors or the referendum list and Application to vote by mail.
For the undivided co-owner of an immovable or the co-occupant of a business establishment, the form used is the one entitled Power of attorney for registration on the list of electors or the referendum list and Application to vote by mail.
Non-domiciled voters must have sent in their registration at the Town Hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 21, 2025.
Non-domiciled voter’s ballots must be received at the Town Hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 31, 2025.
Revision commission
The board of revisors will meet at the office of the returning officer on October 17, 2025, between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., on October 20, 2025, between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and on October 21, 2025, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Electoral Staff
If you wish to submit your application to be part of the electoral staff on Advance Polling Day and/or Election Day, October 26 and November 2, 2025, respectively, you must complete the application form downloadable below and send it to the returning officer:

- or by mail or in person at Town Hall Hall at 11 Principale Sud Street, Sutton. Paper copies will also be available upon request at the Town Hall reception.
Application Form
Applications will be evaluated by the returning officer, who will assign positions according to established criteria.
Conditions
Individuals who agree to fill these temporary positions will be entitled to remuneration, including for training. Remuneration ranges from $19.35/h to $24.75/h, depending on the position held (see the Municipal Elections/Electoral Staff section on the website). A record of employment will be sent to them at the end of the election period.
As electoral staff members play an important role in managing election operations, they must refrain from any partisan activity while performing their duties.
Before applying as a member of the electoral staff, you must ensure that you meet the conditions set out in the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities , sections 68 et seq. Certain provisions of this Act may prevent you from submitting your application, for example, if you already hold an elected position in another municipality. Also, under section 69 of this Act, “A person is not qualified to hold office as an election officer of any municipality if he is convicted of an offence that is a corrupt electoral practice within the meaning of section 645 of the Act respecting school elections concerning certain members of the boards of directors of English school service centres (chapter E-2.3) or the Election Act (chapter E-3.3).

Position
Officer in charge of information and order (PRIMO)
Description
The primo is responsible for the general supervision of the polling station. He ensures that election operations run smoothly, in accordance with the directives issued by the returning officer.

PRIMO assistant
The primo assistant directly assists the primo in supervising electoral operations. He acts as a resource person for members of the electoral team and participates in the logistical, administrative and human management of the polling station.

Deputy returning officer
The deputy returning officer is responsible for delivering ballots to voters and supervising the voting process in the voting booth. The deputy returning officer ensures that each voter votes in a confidential and secure manner, and that procedures are strictly adhered to.

Poll clerks
The poll clerk works closely with the deputy returning officer. He or she is primarily responsible for keeping the voters' list up to date, verifying the identity of voters and ensuring the accuracy of administrative information throughout the voting process.

Members of the identity verification panel (IVP)
IVP members are responsible for verifying the identity of electors who do not present a recognized piece of identification at the time of voting. Their role is essential to ensure compliance with electoral rules, while enabling eligible voters to exercise their right to vote.
