A memorable Fête nationale du Québec, despite the heat wave!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the day's activities: thanks to you, our event was a real success! From the warm welcome to the festive atmosphere on site, everything came together to make this Fête nationale a true summer celebration! Despite the sweltering heat, nearly 1,000 people turned out throughout the day to enjoy the varied activities!

A warm afternoon

The day began with family activities, allowing the youngsters to participate fully in the festivities. The hot day meant that the pool was at maximum capacity all afternoon, while our municipal day camp animators kept the kids entertained with fun and competitive games:

  • Friendly competitions
  • Inflatable games in the form of a course
  • Minigolf with obstacles

The professional make-up artists from Animation kiwi were in great demand! Long were the queues of young and old who wanted to take advantage of their talents, and were able to put on some very creative make-up!

The Lumii Solutions booth also welcomed visitors to take part in a quiz.

The smiles on the faces of those who braved the heat were a testament to the fun they were having. They didn’t forget to grab a bite to eat from the popular street food trucks of Festin Nomade (a variety of poutines) and Mountain View(blooming onions and fresh lemonade). The beverage kiosk provided by bar Le Bunker Room and Ungava remained busy all day, so thirsty was it…

Ceremonial

Before the start of the musical evening, Isabelle Capmas, the Town’s communications advisor, launched the official opening ceremony of the Fête nationale du Québec by inviting Mayor Robert Benoît to pronounce the patriotic phrase, while young Arnaud Fortin raised the Quebec flag. Gilles Vigneault’s Gens du pays, the theme song for Fête nationale 2025, was played and sung during the flag-raising.

The mayor then gave a speech reminding us, with emotion and pride, of the values that unite us as Quebecers and Sutton people.

An electrifying evening of music

The performances were simply fabulous. The evening’s host, Vanessa Lauzon, director of Sutton Encore, and the artists on stage generously conveyed their passion and energy, even in the intense heat. Their enthusiastic performances really added to the festivities, and to our collective pride in celebrating French-language music.

Opening the evening, Sutton singer-songwriter Kim Albert warmed up the crowd with her touching, stripped-down folk compositions.

Then, in the second half, the Fleur de Peau duo of Louis Fernandez and Elie Dubois-Sénéchal charmed the crowd with their melodies and poetic lyrics.

Finally, Choses sauvages, the evening’s headliner, got the crowd going! With their irresistible electro-funk tunes, they got everyone dancing on the grassy dance floor!

The evening ended with our traditional fireworks display, which lit up the Sutton sky to the delight of young and old alike.

Once again, we would like to thank the entire organizing team, the artists, the partners and all those who, despite the heat of this summer’s day, made this event a success. Thanks to you, it was an exceptional party!

A long, magnificent fireworks display rounded off this exceptional evening!
