Cultural policy: the first year in action!
The Town of Sutton is proud to present the results of its Cultural Policy Action Plan for 2025. For its first year, the Cultural Action Plan targeted 14 objectives broken down into 28 actions, which in turn were deployed in 49 targets (i.e., expected results).
Very satisfactory results
Adopted in December 2024, the Sutton Cultural Policy deployed its Action Plan in January 2025. Thanks to the hard work of the people in charge and partners of the Cultural Action Plan (CAP), it was possible to implement several initiatives that deserve to be highlighted. In all, 52 targets have been achieved, some of which will be completed by 2026.

The 2025 Cultural Action Plan Progress Report
Actions completed by 2025 include :
- Encourage twinning between young people and local artistic and cultural professionals (action 2.2.2);
- Roll out projects to beautify public spaces across the region (action 3.1.2);
- Maintain and promote a rich, diversified and accessible program at the Municipal and School Library (action 3.2.1);
- Take arts and culture into account in the development of municipal projects (action 4.4.2).
The Cultural Action Plan remains an evolving process, in which other results can be added to help achieve its objectives.
In 2025, 10 targets have been added to the plan, including :
- Installation of an electronic bulletin board at the Sutton Municipal and School Library (action 1.2.2);
- Volunteer applications for national or provincial awards (action 1.1.4);
- The signing of a lease with D’Arts et de rêves to share the Museum’s administrative premises (action 3.4.3).
Involvement of the Follow-Up Committee
The Cultural Action Plan follow-up committee is made up of members representing the arts and culture in the community. Their role is, among other things, to monitor the action plan in the light of progress made and changes underway in the community.
The members met twice during 2025. Some are also responsible for carrying out certain CAP actions. For example, Héritage Sutton inventoried Sutton’s commemorative heritage and worked on a project on the founding of the Town of Sutton. The organization also worked with the Sutton School of Art to run a day camp on local built heritage.
The Corporation de développement économique de Sutton (CDES) was responsible for the creation of a brand-new interpretation trail, as well as implementing initiatives to promote Sutton’s dynamic cultural milieu as a vector for economic and tourism development.
Actions continue into 2026!
In 2026, the Cultural Action Plan calls for the achievement of 14 objectives, which will be broken down into 35 actions, to be implemented through 66 targets or expected results. Here are just a few examples:
- Update and promote the Public Art Policy (actions 2.1.1);
- Promote and celebrate Sutton heritage (action 2.1.2);
- Contribute financially to the creation of collective citizen artworks by recognized cultural NPOs (action 2.2.4).
The Cultural Action Plan remains an evolving process to which other expected results may be added. The follow-up committee will continue its diligent work.
