The Second Screening of our Free Open Air Cinema Series Will Take Place on July 16

As we announced on June 15, our free family-friendly outdoor movie screenings are back at the Sutton School of Art, which has been commissioned by the Town to host these events.

Indigenous Creativity in the Spotlight on Thursday, July 16

Wapikoni Mobile

In the first part of the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to watch Wapikoni Mobile short films, which will be presented by the organization’s founder, director Manon Barbeau.

Wapikoni Mobile is a non-profit Indigenous organization that supports the personal, creative, and professional development of First Nations people and strengthens their communities through audiovisual creation.

Start time: 8:15 p.m.

Runtime: about 30 minutes

Kayak to Klemtu

The feature film that will be screened on this second movie night is Kayak to Klemtu, a Canadian film directed by Zoe Leigh Hopkins.

Synopsis: The film tells the story of 14-year-old Ella, who must transport her late uncle’s ashes to Klemtu, British Columbia. She must paddle along the Inside Passage and through the Great Bear Rainforest. It’s a race against time to arrive on schedule and deliver a crucial speech opposing a proposed oil pipeline. Her journey is complicated by her dysfunctional family, who are traveling with her.

Runtime: 90 minutes
Film presented in the original English version with French subtitles.
