Public Art
In the fall of 2015, the Town of Sutton adopted its Public Art Policy. An advisory committee was established to advise and support the Town in the long-term development of its collection.
The revision of the Public Art Policy is planned in the 2025-2029 Cultural Action Plan.
Municipal Collection
The Town of Sutton owns historical objects and photographs as well as artworks. These are mainly displayed in municipal buildings, and some artworks are outdoors. Until the adoption of the new Public Art Policy, no acquisition projects are planned, and donations will not be accepted.
1% Artworks Owned by the Town
Infrastructure projects carried out by the Town and funded by government grants have resulted in the creation of artworks under the application of the Quebec government’s Policy on the Integration of Arts into the Architecture and Environment of Governmental and Public Buildings and Sites (known as the 1% Policy).
En effet, tout projet de construction d’un bâtiment ou d’un site doit comprendre un programme d’intégration des arts selon les règles énoncées dans la présente politique (1 % de la valeur du projet).
In February 2017, the first artwork was unveiled in the Town Hall council chamber. Discover Éric Lamontagne, the artist who created it, and watch video clips where he explains his approach and presents his work entitled Se voir contempler / Paysage-intérieur.
A second artwork, titled Appalaches by Louise deLorme, was created and installed in 2017 at Goyette-Hill Park.
