Civil Safety

Civil security involves risk management and the protection of people and property in the event of a disaster. A disaster is a natural catastrophic event that causes damage and can result in injuries or even fatalities. To this end, the Town of Sutton has a Municipal Civil Security Plan, prepared and updated by its Public Safety Department.

The Town of Sutton’s Municipal Civil Security Plan is tailored to the needs of our community. It aims to foster ongoing reflection on the disasters that threaten us, identify the necessary resources in case of need, build an organizational structure ready to act under all circumstances, and prepare personnel for rapid and effective intervention through a continuous training program.

This emergency plan was developed in accordance with the Civil Security Act and in compliance with the provisions of the Regulation on Alert and Mobilization Procedures and the Minimum Rescue Measures to Protect the Safety of Persons and Property in the Event of a Disaster.

Disaster Survival Kits

In the event of a disaster or major incident within the Town’s territory (for example, a widespread power outage, a major storm, flooding, etc.), you must ensure you can be self-sufficient at home for the first 72 hours: it is important to prepare and keep an updated survival kit to meet your needs and those of your family for a period of three days.

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec provide the public with various guides to help prepare for potential disasters that may require emergency services intervention over an extended period.
