A Memorable Quebec National Holiday!
The celebrations for La Fête nationale du Québec in Sutton on June 24 once again drew a large crowd in a festive, entertaining, and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who came out to take part in the festivities—children, adults, friends, and families: in total, nearly 700 of you enjoyed the activities and Guy Lafleur-themed celebrations!
A lively family part!
The festivities kicked off with a packed family-friendly program, allowing children to fully participate in the celebration. Professional face painters from Animation Kiwi were very busy decorating the faces of young and old alike with their personalized designs. An inflatable obstacle course and a 9-hole mini-golf course with obstacles kept the kids entertained all afternoon. The counselors from the municipal day camp entertained the children with competitive games and helped them create a banner featuring the fleur-de-lis and hockey players.

Attendees were able to enjoy refreshments thanks to the food and beverage tents set up by Auberge Sutton Brouërie, Le Gros Nez, and IGA, as well as Bar Le Bunker Room. From healthy snacks to the classic sandwich with homemade sausage from Le Gros Nez, there was something to suit everyone’s taste!

Starting Ceremony
Before the musical portion began, Isabelle Capmas, the Town’s communications advisor, kicked off the official opening ceremony for La Fête nationale du Québec by first introducing the national theme for this day of celebration: the75th anniversary of the birth of Guy Lafleur, Quebec’s national ice hockey hero, coinciding with the adoption of the law recognizing ice hockey as Quebec’s national sport. She then invited Mayor Robert Benoît to recite the solemn patriotic pledge while young Clément raised the Quebec flag.
Finally, the mayor, wearing his Nordiques jersey, gave a speech in which he reminded us, with emotion and pride, of the values that unite us as Quebecers and residents of Sutton.

An electro-country music set
The musical portion of the evening was simply fabulous. The evening’s host, Vanessa Lauzon, director of Sutton Encore, along with the guest artists, delivered performances full of passion and energy that showcased local Francophone music. A true tribute to our culture and our Quebec pride!
In the first half, Georges Ouel shared his love of French chanson through his spaghetti-western-inspired compositions.
Later, in the second half, it was the group Spaghatt got the crowd dancing with their knee-bending country tunes.
Finally, in the third part, Hologramme enchanted our senses with their dreamy, danceable, and otherworldly electronic music, which blends live performance with a DJ set.

This atmospheric music was the perfect way to wrap up the concerts before the traditional fireworks display, which lit up the sky over Sutton and delighted young and old alike.

Once again, thank you to the entire organizing team, the artists, the sponsors, the partners, and everyone who helped create this lively and unifying event.
