Notice of work and water shut-off on Dépôt Street on October 26

The Town of Sutton wishes to inform the concerned citizens that the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department will proceed with the replacement of a fire hydrant on Dépôt Street on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. In order to carry out this work, the water supply will be cut off between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Drinking water service will be restored as soon as the work is completed. However, due to this interruption in service, a precautionary boil water advisory is issued for the same day, October 26, 2021, for a period of at least 96 hours or until further notice.

Concerned citizens should boil their tap water thoroughly for at least 1 minute before drinking or use bottled water

Water consumption guidelines:

Before consuming tap water, you must boil it for at least one minute for the following uses until notified otherwise (or use bottled water):

  • When drinking and preparing beverages;
  • When preparing infant formulas and baby food;
  • When washing and preparing foods that are eaten raw (fruits, vegetables, etc.);
  • When cooking food that does not require a long cooking time (canned soups, desserts, etc.)
  • When making ice cubes;
  • When brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth.
  • Throw out ice cubes (do not forget the refrigerators’ water containers), drinks and foods prepared after the date and time mentioned above.

You may use tap water for:

  • Washing dishes in hot water and drying them well;
  • Washing clothes and taking a shower or a bath. When it comes to younger children, make sure that they do not swallow bath water or wash them with a washcloth.

For all commercial or public buildings which are serviced: please notify your clientele that the water is unsafe for drinking. Close water fountains and post information in locations where water remains available.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. Residents of Dépôt Street will have to wait until the Town of Sutton lifts the precautionary boil water advisory before consuming the tap water. Information will be available on the Town’s website and Facebook page.
