Felling diseased trees in Tartre Park

The Public Works and Fixed Assets Department proceeded today with the felling of four ash trees located along Route 139 in Tartre Park. These trees were fatally affected by the Emerald Ash Borer and posed a danger to park visitors and road users.

There were clear signs on the trees, as shown in the photos. A second round of tree felling will take place next winter between October 1 and March 15, the annual period during which we are allowed to cut ash trees to limit the spread of the insect pest.

The Town has already planned to replace these trees in the spring. Particular attention will be paid to the selection of various species and varieties of trees to increase their longevity and promote biodiversity.
