What will you do?

Under the authority of the Director General, the Communications Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, advising and coordinating all activities relating to external communications, public relations and the promotion of the municipality.

More specifically, the incumbent has the following responsibilities:

  • Advise senior management and department heads on communications with the media and the public, with a view towards continuous improvement;
  • Write, edit, translate and publish news on the Town’s websites and social networks, ensuring quality, accuracy, consistency and accessibility;
  • Create or revise visuals for each news item;
  • Update information on the Town’s websites and social networks;
  • Monitor social networks and intervene where necessary;
  • Participate in the various committees on which their presence is required and, if necessary, and at the request of General Administration, assume the role of committee secretary;
  • Contribute to the evolution, revision and updating of the Town’s communication tools;
  • Manage the annual publication of the municipal calendar;
  • Plan and coordinate public consultations with the various project managers;
  • Manage and coordinate media relations for interview requests and press conferences;
  • Take photos or videos of the Town’s external and internal events and contribute to the municipality’s image bank;
  • Draft and coordinate emergency communications;
  • Establish annual communications budget forecasts and regularly monitor expenses, in collaboration with the Director General;
  • Keep abreast of new communications trends and participate in relevant municipal communications training;
  • Carry out any other related tasks requested by the immediate superior.

Who are we looking for?

To meet the job requirements, you must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or media, or other related discipline, with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience;
  • Have knowledge of the municipal environment (an asset);
  • Be proficient with IT tools, including WordPress;
  • Possess graphic design and writing skills;
  • Have good organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Be fluent in spoken and written French and have a good knowledge of spoken and written English, given the Town’s bilingual status;
  • Be available from time to time after office hours (evenings and weekends) for any important Town event requiring the presence of the Communications Officer;
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team in a public and political environment;
  • Be adaptable;
  • Demonstrate autonomy, rigour and efficiency;
  • Be dynamic, have good judgment, tact, discretion, a sense of ethics and a sense of public service.
