What will you do?

Reporting to the Assistant Director General | Projects and Community, the Director of the Urban and Land-Use Planning Department is responsible for designing, developing, directing and evaluating all municipal activities related to his or her department. He or she plays a strategic role within the organization, providing advice and guidance in relation to his or her area of expertise and the management of his or her department.

More specifically, the incumbent has the following responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and organize the work of all staff under his/her responsibility;
  • Oversee the department’s relations with various clienteles;
  • Prepare departmental budget forecasts;
  • Handle and follow up on complaints and requests relating to urban planning and nuisances;
  • Prepare and follow up on recommendation reports required by General Administration or Town Council;
  • Establish a partnership with promoters of major development projects and act as a facilitator to guide them in bringing their projects to fruition;
  • Follow up on specific issues referred to by the General Administration or the Town Council, particularly in the areas of economic development and expansion of road and infrastructure networks;
  • Assume responsibility for ad hoc changes to town-planning regulations;
  • Collaborate with other municipal departments in the development and implementation of various projects;
  • Participate in the Executive Committee and any other relevant committees on a regular basis.

Who are we looking for?

To meet the job requirements, you must:

  • Hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in urban planning;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec;
  • Have a minimum of ten years’ relevant experience;
  • Be familiar with urban-planning laws and regulations, and have the analytical skills to study them;
  • Have the ability to synthesize information and have a keen political sense;
  • Demonstrate leadership, communication and team-building skills;
  • Be bilingual (French and English), both written and spoken;
  • Be familiar with the office software and IT tools needed to perform the job.

  • Annual salary from $104,095 to $130,948;
