Standard First Aid Certificate: free training offered on September 14 and 15
As part of the free lifesaving training program we announced on May 31,
the Town of Sutton will be offering a free Standard First Aid course on
September 14 and 15, 2024 directly at the Goyette-Hill Park pool. This course, which
requires no prerequisites, will give participants aged 12 and over the chance
to obtain one of the certificates needed to work at a swimming pool!
With the Standard First Aid certificate, as well as the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certificates, it is possible to become an assistant lifeguard and work at the pool from the age of 15! The Standard First Aid certificate is a prerequisite to register for the National Lifeguard course, which is needed to work as a certified lifeguard from the age of 16.
The Standard First Aid course is a good first introduction to the lifeguard profession – no prerequisites required!
The lifeguard profession
Being a lifeguard at the Sutton pool means spending your summer outdoors in a beautiful park with a dynamic team!
The role of a lifeguard is to supervise swimmers to ensure their safety, react quickly in critical situations, provide first aid to injured people, and enforce pool rules to prevent accidents.
Lifeguards are attentive, responsible and knowledgeable.
