FIAL is a federal program designed to support local projects that will help improve food security in communities by purchasing and installing infrastructure and equipment that will increase the availability and accessibility of local, nutritious, and culturally appropriate foods.

The funding received by the Legion will be used to replace its aging kitchen equipment. The renovation and modernization work is expected to be completed by the end of June. Once the work is finished, the Legion plans to expand its community impact by collaborating with local organizations. It intends to make its kitchen—certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPAQ)—available for food storage, preparation, and transformation projects that will benefit people throughout the region.

As part of the FIAL initiative, the Sutton Legion has also planted several fruit trees, blueberry bushes, and other edible shrubs on its property, with the aim of sharing them especially with the children who use the nearby path to walk to elementary school.

The investment as a whole will help strengthen local food security efforts while creating new opportunities for community partners to access safe, certified food-processing facilities.

The Town of Sutton congratulates the Sutton Legion on this wonderful initiative, which will benefit the food security of the entire community!
