Standards in effect for certain types of prohibited buildings
Published on 8 April 2025
The Town of Sutton wishes to remind you of the standards in effect concerning certain types of buildings prohibited on its territory.
In accordance with Zoning By-law number 115-2 (Chapter 2, Section 1, Article 1.9) in force, the following are prohibited throughout the Town’s territory:
- The use of railway cars, buses, trailers or other similar vehicles or parts of vehicles as a main or accessory building;
- The use of containers as main or accessory buildings;
- Except for agricultural uses, semi-circular buildings (arches, domes or other), prefabricated or not, in galvanized sheet metal, metal cladding or any other material;
The use of containers for storage is therefore not permitted on Town of Sutton territory.
We would also like to remind you that it is forbidden to occupy a trailer, caravan or tent-trailer on the Town’s territory. Only duly licensed buildings may be used as dwellings.
Parking for trailers, motor homes, trailers, boats or similar recreational equipment is permitted only in side and rear yards.
Containers and trailers are tolerated during work sites for which a permit has been issued, but must be removed afterwards.
