How will the December 20th public meeting on the planning by-laws be conducted?

As announced at the council meeting of November 22, the Town of Sutton is organizing a public meeting next Monday, December 20, at the Town Hall, in order to gather your experiences and ideas on our current urban planning by-laws.

A municipal commission, composed of Mayor Robert Benoît, the President of the Planning and Sustainable Developement Advisory Committee (PSDAC) Jacques Masson and the Director of Urban and Land-Use Planning Claude Théberge, will receive each person, or group of persons, who wishes to publicly present their point of view.

We want to hear from you!

Whether you are an individual or a professional, come and present to the Commission the difficulties you have encountered and the suggestions for improvement you have regarding the application of our urban planning by-laws. Please note that this will not be a debate since this commission is not intended to pronounce for or against the ideas brought forward. It will only be there to listen to you.

Some of the by-law topics that may be discussed: affordable housing, lot sizes, secondary suites, grandfathering, wetlands, zoning, tree cutting, water supply, short-term rentals, this list is not exhaustive.

Speaking time will be 15 minutes per speaker.

Open to the public

The session will take place over two periods, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the council room. If it is not possible to accommodate all registrants, a second session will be held in early January.

The public will be admitted, subject to the maximum number of seats allowed in the room.

The session will be recorded and replayed on the Town’s YouTube channel.

Post-commission

At the conclusion of the information and ideas gathering session(s), the Town will be tasked with identifying key problem areas in our regulations. Thematic workshops will then be held, where citizens will be able to discuss with our officials to propose consensus improvements. The revised by-laws will then be submitted to an official public consultation, in accordance with the provisions of the Act respecting land use planning and development. While the democratic process is underway, Council plans to adopt the revised by-laws and the urban plan by the end of 2022.
