Mountain Street: traffic calming measures completed

This week, the Town carried out the final traffic calming measures it had planned on Mountain Street to slow vehicle speeds, enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety, and improve residents’ quality of life.

With a 30 km/h speed limit for the entire street, the addition of a speed bump and several bollards with children’s silhouettes as deterrents, Mountain Street now has additional stops at the Mountain/Seymour and Mountain/Grenier intersections, so that these stops are now mandatory in all lanes.

In addition, the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department applied the two missing white edge lines between Cimetière and Grenier Streets to delineate the outside of the lanes along the entire length of Mountain Street. And finally, a central yellow line – with no overtaking – was drawn from Cimetière Street to Billings Street. The addition of these lines creates a visual narrowing, having the effect of making motorists slow down.

The Town hopes that all these measures will bring the desired safety to Mountain Street, in line with the wishes of residents and its overall traffic calming objectives.

Please note that Town de Laval has just published a video of an excellent and amusing speed awareness campaign: watch and share!
