The new municipal council of Sutton has officially taken office
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sutton, November 16, 2021—After the swearing in of the two councillors elected by acclamation, Lynda Graham and Carole Lebel, it was the turn of the other five members of the municipal council, elected last November 7, to be sworn in by the Town’s Returning Officer, Me Jonathan Fortin. Mayor Robert Benoît, councillors Thérèse Leclerc, Marie-José Auclair, Alan Pavilanis and Marc-André Blain were sworn in on Monday, November 15th in front of a few relatives and citizens.
The Mayor took the opportunity of this simple but solemn ceremony to make his first public speech as the Town of Sutton’s first elected official. “I have already had several meetings with the Director General, Pascal Smith, who has assured me of the administration’s enthusiasm to work together,” he commented. “It is very important for the newly elected officials to be able to count on this collaboration. It’s not our job to do the day-to-day management, that’s the administration’s job and we’ll respect that.”
A Team Effort
He also made a point of recalling the theme that united his team during the campaign and will continue to guide council members throughout their term: being in action and as a team. “We will have three teams in the field: the elected officials who will work on the announced program and priorities, the administration whose task will be to put into practice the given orientations and, just as important, the citizen participation. We have a wealth of local expertise, not just from graduates, but from ordinary people who have lived there for a long time and know the reality of the territory. We are committed to making sure we have that input.”
The mayor concluded by stating that several changes would be announced at the first meeting of the new council. “In agreement with the Director General, we don’t want to be a Town that is going to imitate others, we want to be ahead of others!”
Next Council Meeting
The next council meeting will be held next Monday, November 22, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 11 Principale Street South, Sutton (information to follow).
